Condolence: This has been on my mind since your first email and I still can't get my head around it. I am so sorry for your loss. Please give Jan an extra big hug from us because I know she is devastated. I can't imagine the hurt and anguish but let her know that she has many, many supporters around the world that hurt with her. Sharla will be sorely missed but will always be remembered in our hearts. I think back and am reminded how intertwined our lives have been: I was at your wedding. You were at mine. I wore your dress mess jacket. I stood up in Deon's wedding. We helped your dad fix a tractor and your mom tried to feed me chicken hearts (and she called me "the little boy" - I still chuckle at that) . So many life events we shared and Sharla showed up at all of them. It makes me sad that she won't bounce in the next time but I'll always remember her smile and how excited she'd get when we all got together. She was a ray of sunshine and those memories will endure. Condolence: Calvin & Jan, We both realize no words of condolence or sympathy can ease the unrelenting pain of a parent when a child is lost. This is not the natural order of things, with only God knowing why this plan was set in motion. My memory of that beautiful young lady makes it ever more difficult to process this news.
My daily prayers include asking God to help me understand what he wants me to know. An understanding of the parents grief at a time like this has not been one of the revelations. Having gone through this with Billy Jack in the death of his two sons, I have lived with an ever present fear of experiencing the same. With their professions I can not put it out of my mind. BJ and I go back a little more than even you and I, and I have watched him deal with it. He came to realize that God was his only real support that was reliable at a time like this, and that was not without terrific hurdles. I know Sharla was like your own, leaving you with many of the same hurdles. Remember, nothing is forever ... not the good, and thank God not the bad. This too will pass. My thoughts and prayers are truly with you, old friend.
