Life Story for Dorothy Fern "Dot" Gallien (Hodge)

Dorothy Fern "Dot" Gallien (Hodge)
“Instead of mourning their death, celebrate their life.” Marshall Bruce Mathers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Hodge Gallien will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana with Reverend David Kimsey officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, Louisiana. Visitation for “Dot” will begin on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.

Dot Gallien left her earthly body on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 11:49 p.m. with her family at her bedside, due to end stage Alzheimer’s.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Gallien, Jr., her parents, John Mitchell and Mattie Teal Hodge, two sisters, Myrtle Clara and Mildred Elaine Hodge, two brothers, Durwood and Ralph Hodge and her dear friend, Alma Finnister.

Mrs. Gallien is survived by two sons, Joseph Gallien and Gary Michael Gallien; a daughter, Letitia “Tish” Gallien Hull and husband, Carl Sr; one sister, Mamie Lea Anderson and her most precious grand-daughter, Heather L. Gallien. Dot is also survived by “daughters of her heart,” Pamela D. Lachney and Stacie Guillory Smith (Kyle) along with dear friend Anne Funderburk and many other friends that loved her dearly.

Dot saw the beauty of God in nature. She loved container gardening (especially Hibiscus and Gerbera Daisies), Blue Bell Ice Cream (homemade vanilla), General Foods International Coffee (Hazelnut), her collection of elephant figurines and her Chanel No. 5.
Her loves of photography lead her to a career as a darkroom technician at Kohara Studio and Newcomb Camera and Arts Supply, where she was also the Arts Department Manager.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alexandria Museum of Art Children’s Program to the attention of Steve Farnsley, Development and Community Relations Officer, or the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Carl Randall Hull, Sr., William Ellington, Les Clark, Michael Richey, Carl Linzay and Dennis Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Shelby Bohannon, Bill Clark, Billy Funderburk, Larry E. Lee, Sr., Jim Gallien and Wayne Johnson.
Heartfelt thanks to St. Joseph Hospice for their exceptional service and support, Stacie Guillory Smith for her gentle and loving care of Dot in her last days, and Celeste Richey for the advice, love and support given to our family.
